Grown for you since ’82 - fresh produce at Over Farm

It doesn’t get much fresher than straight from the field!

Over Farm grown produce

Farming’s not the simplest job in the world, and our story’s a long one, but every time a fresh stalk pops its head out the ground or a strawberry ripens, it all feels worth it.

We work our hardest to keep up with the weather to produce to our usual timeline. Some years are trickier than others, and you might occasionally find the odd crop out of sync, but generally speaking we produce our crops in line with the calendar below.

The harvest starts with Rhubarb in early March, followed by asparagus in April and our delicious summer fruits really get going in June, with strawberries, raspberries and blackberries available throughout most of the summer.

Sweetcorn and courgettes arrive in August in time for your barbecues (steaks available in the Butchery!) and our most colourful time of year is the Autumn, when you’ll find our squash and pumpkin trolley in the car park, right through until winter (the longer they’re kept, the better the flavour!). And in December? It’s Christmas tree time!

The story behind Over Farm’s fresh produce

Our story started in the seventies, when our farmer Rees Keene’s grandad Richard began selling his home-grown potatoes and onions to passers-by at the farm gate. Trade picked up and it wasn’t long before he was almost as busy selling as he was growing.

So after his son Rob, Rees’s dad, returned home from an inspirational trip to the USA, where farm shops were already picking up traction, he suggested it was time to stop selling at the gate and go all in.

In 1982, Rob and his wife Sue opened up the shop that was to become Over Farm Market and began to grow lots more produce to fill the shelves. Before long, 25 of our 170 acres had been dedicated to growing fresh produce, and they’re still responsible for lots of the food we sell today. Rees took over his old man’s passion in 2013 and continues to keep the shelves stocked with the freshest wares, straight from cropland to counter.
